History, art and culture play a fundamental role in Cattolica and the surrounding area; precious finds bear witness to the artistic and cultural liveliness of the territory and are able to attract increasing numbers of tourists. An appreciated holiday destination, Cattolica offers tourists the possibility to discover curious historic vicissitudes, to visit its charming hinterland which is scattered with artistic and architectural masterpieces and to take part in the cultural events which are arranged by the city itself and the nearby resorts both in summer and in winter.

Cattolica is home to a brand new Multipurpose Cultural Centre, designed by architect Pier Luigi Cervellati in order to create a single complex aimed at welcoming any cultural event. The municipal library, new media library and Teatro della Regina are included in a single facility situated just in the heart of Piazza della Repubblica, the city's main gathering place, which is provided with an open-air stage aimed at hosting music shows and targeted events in summer too.

The lovers of cultural excursions will have the opportunity to discover Santarcangelo and Cattolica passing through Montescudo and Mondaino; this area is scattered with interesting museums dedicated to the art, traditions, history and prehistory of these lands, important theatres staging absorbing shows and cultural events which are able to involve both large cities and small villages.

The archaeological sites of the surrounding area gather precious archaeological and geological treasures, which are now hosted inside important museums and offer deep insights into the prehistory and ancient history of these territories. Important finds unearthed in Vallugola, such as remains of ancient walls, impressive statues and sculptured stones, foment an ancient legend. Legend has it that many centuries ago the coastal area situated few kilometres far from Cattolica hosted the city of Valbruna, which mysteriously disappeared and was never found again.

Precious finds bear witness to the splendour of the Medieval Age, when Romagna was conquered by the Malatesta family from Verucchio, who ruled the surrounding territory for over three centuries. Famous for the fortresses and castles they commissioned, the Malatestas left their mark across Emilia-Romagna and the bordering regions, since they ordered the building of impressive castles, walls, towers and fortresses which have dominated the coast and the hinterland of Rimini since the Middle Ages, thus leaving an indelible mark on the surrounding landscape.
